  • Fred Tappan says:

Hey Shane, Your website is showing up weird to me, sorry to give you more work to do. I work two jobs and internet market in my spare time so I always have more work to do.

    • Can I ask what browser and device you were using to view the site?

  • Hi Shane, what about this: rather than seeking to be “highly productive”, change to become “highly efficient”.

The Highly Productive mentality is a trap that can be traced back to the origins of the Industrial revolution: Man vs Machine.

Nowadays we should know that machines can be far more productive to do one thing than any human.

So changing to be Highly Efficient presents a different paradigm a better approach, combines time and effort, hopefully in a more humanized way.

Just think about Olympic athletes, they are highly motivated and exercise above the rest of humans, but they only achieve “perfection” when they are Highly Efficient, at that one special moment: The Olympic games.

    • I think that’s a very good point, yes. I’d go as far as to say that for most businesses, making yourself (as the owner/founder) redundant is an important step in the growth of the company. Once the initial grind is over, the founder should do the very opposite of pursuing busywork. But I’ve not really been able to practice this properly myself. Something I still need to work on.

  • It could be me talking in this video. I think because I have few commitments and I really enjoy what I do I spend too much time doing it!
I’ve just completed a weekly time log – very illuminating (but not surprising if I’m honest. It’s very easy to feel ‘exhausted’ because you think you’ve been working hard all day, but the reality is somewhat different.

I plan to increase my outside work commitments because I do know that this will give me less time on my business which will force me to focus more on priorities.

BTW – I for one, am really liking your shorter posts. They are easier to digest and action.

    Caroline

    • Thank you, Caroline! I really enjoy my work as well and it makes it all too easy to let the work-life balance slip.
