Sunday video updates from Shane – yes!
I think the Sunday updates are a perfect way to get the message out while helping us, the subscribers, stay on track with our goals and priorities when it comes to business.
I am one of the new subscribers who found you from the “rant” video and I’m glad I did. You really seem to bring a calming sense of saneness to a world of internet marketing that in itself, is becoming a minefield of one bad promotion after another.
Yes – Look forward to your candid views every week keeps me alert and I think that it likely saves me loads of time regards products I do not need to see for myself are bad since you have already checked it out.
1 – Backlink Battleplan sorted my focus and action in a big way, like you I was I spreading myself too thin and it showed in the results I was getting!
2 – Once a week is great.
Looking forward to your release of ‘Link Control’, thank you Shane.
Andy
Hi Shane,
A quick response since I was “taking action” before I took the break to watch this …
1) Video updates … YES … they are absolutely fantastic allow us to hear what’s happening plus provides insight into a cool marketing approach (makes a note in my journal ;) …
2) I completely relate to the whole focus thing. I am currently working three niches with multiple sites in each and have been struggling to get the progress I desire in any one of them. It just so happened I have been re-prioritizing my efforts to focus most of my weekly efforts in one area with minimal maintenance efforts in the other two. Once I get the system in the first niche rolling then I intend to swap it out for the next. We’ll see how it goes …
3) A quick question, how does or will Link Control differ from BLBP?
Cheers,
Jim H.
1) I encourage that. :)
It’s what I do as well: Watch how others do marketing and take notes.
2) I suggest focusing on one site only until you have it ranking and get a bit of money coming in through it. Then invest that money into automating and outsourcing, so that the site can become independant of you.
3) Big time. You’ll see. :)
Hi Shane,
Actually I wanted to mention one good thing I have made for increasing productivity. This is something I did last week and probably there is a bit more… I have unsubscribed for at least 20 email lists. You kind of opened my eyes about what crap I got. Thanks about that.
I like the videos.
Be well,
Erik
Yep, unsubscribing from garbage mailing list, or at least banning them to a dedicated (and seldom checked) e-mail address is a great way to get some focus back.
thanks, Shane!
very intelligent, and as I mentioned on your Kajabi blog, I’m also looking for a product platform that makes delivery as seamless as possible. But in the meantime, I want to keep focused on developing content and choosing likely markets. I think having a system I feel confident plugging into will help inspire me to move forward, maybe try something smaller first (like an ebook or series of videos) just to generate interest before trying to sell something.
Yes please keep up your weekly updates! I appreciate the authenticity, lack of hype, with some constructive disclosure of what you’ve been through yourself. Can’t wait for your “massive blog” on product systems!
Yes, I can only recommend that approach! Put out some small things to test the market, before you go through with a big project.
Hi Shane,
Thank you for the video update. I am going to keep using
the Action Enforcer. It is a free online time management program. You can find it at:
http://www.actionenforcer.com/online/
When I first found out about this I thought it was a joke as there is a comic of a police officer on it. However, have been using it for the last couple of weeks and it is amazing. It has a built in timer the tells you when your task should be done. Usually, I finish before and it is almost like a video game as I try to beat the timer. Anyway, I highly recommend it and the price is great. Free. I have gotten more done in the last two weeks than I ever have and I find myself with lots of free time now.
Which I like to use to watch video updates from you, so if you can, please keep them coming. They are great.
Thanks for the link. Cool that it’s available online!
I’ve got a desktop version of that tool (with a different name, but it’s the same thing) and it’s really useful.
Wow, that’s a great tool.
I’ve used the online version for a few hours and it’s great. Will buy the desktop version today!
Shane, personally I like the video updates and listen plus read all your content. I think you are an honest IM’er. I myself am not an IM’er but do have a website which is being launched (e-commerce) and am looking for ways to promote my business. I have learned so much about SEO over the last year (seriously thinking about opening my own SEO company) in hopes to protect my investment as I have spent thousands on my website which hopefully will be launched later this year. I have researched and spent so much money on IM that it makes my head spin at times, but I can honestly say you are one of the best resources I have come across. I appreciate your detailed yet easy to follow recommendations. As far as focus, lol. I think I spend too much time on spreading myself thin as well but at least I have learned so much but its time to nail down the specifics and get to work. Once again, thanks for all your hard work and it does not go unappreciated. I am sure that many of your subscribers feel the same way.
Shane,
Good video. Your delivery is excellent.
Once a week on the videos would be fine with me.
One tip, please keep your products tightly focused, and as easy to follow, as Backlink Battleplan. I’ve seen many great products lose some of their value be ause the information is presented in a dis-jointed fashion (step by step checklists and flowcharts are essential).
Cheers,
Mike
PS Tomorrow I’ll be focusing on going through the Battleplan, completely, for the first time.
Hi Shane,
I like the weekly updates. However, you don’t have to do it on Sunday;)
I agree with your point of view on focus and action. My new product is also almmost done. However, I did realise a couple of days ago that it doesn’t have to be me to apply the all the action. So I’v started to outsource some of the action stuff.
Just like you I’m searching for a kind of membership platform for delivery of my products. Because of the payment options for my products in the Netherlands the choice of options to ty in with is limited. I’m thinking about WishList.
Cheers, Jan
What payment methods do you guys prefer?
Would paypal or a merchant account that accepts credit cards do the trick?
Nope,
In the netherlands for 90% Ideal is used. It’s an electronic payment option made available by all Dutch banks. So creditcard is not a very popular option and Paypal is not much used over here.
I see…
I guess you’d have to find out how to set up a merchant account with this service and then get it tied in with a product delivery service. Might take some custom programming…
Hey Shane let em keep coming on a weekly basis, I enjoy the Sunday Show. I think I’ll keep listening to you for more focus.
I am implementing the “one thing a day principle” and it’s working well for me.
Thanks Shane. Weekly hot tip video is great.
My plan for the week is to make a good action list and work through that. I will also try and complete any item on that list without any interruption until it is completed. It is something I have tried and it makes me very productive.
Here’s a quick “@everyone” reply:
Looks like many experience the same issues with focus as I am. I’m sure we can find some “hacks” to get more focus going. :)
Also: I found a bunch of legitimate comments in the spam folder, so it seems my Akismet is over-reacting. Very sorry for any lost comments!
Great video! I personally don’t want to spend too much time watching videos, so every two weeks or even monthly would be a good rythm too (I prefer to scan/read texts).
Yeah, taking “focused action” is a very important topic. What helped me a lot here for example in context with wasting time while browsing online, was to create an “action list”. That means, whenever I read/learn something helpful, I write into the action-list how I want to execute it. And as soon as I see, that there are more than 5 items on the list, I instantly stop browsing for new information (blogs, forums, books etc) and finally execute them. The same works for my ongoing tasks to get them done.
I have too many websites to properly update and build backlinks to. My intent was to launch a bunch and see which ones will be best. I have several that are now in the top ten of Google.
I will keep building backlinks so they will retain and maybe increase their positions.
I am in a quandry as to what to do about all the keywords that are good or great that I have found.
I am finding it very difficult to just ignore all my sites and concentrate on just one or two. But, I must.
I want to sell some of my sites but it takes time to set them up ie Flippa.
Video updates – yes!
Weekly Videos are interesting – thanks Great
p.s. it looks like you’re speaking directly into the camera–without a teleprompter? if so, you’re very good at keeping a train of thought and making good eye contact. If you do use a teleprompter, any suggestions for what kind?
I’ve seen the following, using an iphone:
http://www.prompt-it.com.au
here’s another one, using your laptop screen:
http://www.telepromptermirrors.com/buyteleprompter.htm
I just got a Kodak Zi8 camera with external mic–
I’m using a super sophisticated technique, that’s never been taught to the public and that I refer to as: “Saying whatever comes to my mind and then editing out the stupid bits, afterwards.”
Not recommended for any but the most advanced video-masters, though. ;)
There’s a free teleprompting software available, that someone recommended to me some time ago, but I never used it. Just did a search for free teleprompters and apparently, there are quite a few out there.
You gotta be careful though: It’s actually quite difficult to read off of a script and not sound scripted.
Hi Shane,
Yes – you are touching on a very important subject here. It is a lot about focus and taking action – not just any action but actions which take you towards your goals.
I am right now making a map for myself – a blueprint if you will. I want to have it visual so I draw it on a big paper the old fashioned way and put it on the wall so I can see it all the time.
However, there is a Japanese proverb saying this:
A vision without actions is a daydream. Actions without a vision is a nightmare.
Both are needed.
I don’t mind to have your messages and videos every day. They are always short and to the point.
I need to check this leaked video you are talking about. I always suspected this so I am not surprised.
I hope it hurts them gurus a lot.
Best wishes
Yes. More updates. Except that I have two more short arkles to write and I had to watch your video first. Ha!
As for focus and action. Jeez. Battlelink Battleplan gives us both in impressive quantities. I’m focused on one thing right now and that’s working your plan with one website. I have staked out a fairly popular keyword because the dang site calls for it. Time will tell, and it’s all going to be pretty verifiable. I’m looking for good things out of this!
Norm
Hey Shane,
Thanks for the talk on focus. I think it is only one of several things that hold us back, fear being another one.
I am a big Tim Ferriss fan and he recommended a book – The Power of Less – that handles this topic better than many other books on the subject. Learning to discover the essential things in life and particularly in business is the key to giving your best.
Anyway, I for one, am going to break down the list of BBBP tasks into two hour chunks so if I take it on like Andy Williams (ezseo), who said it took him about 10 hours to do a “round”, it will take me about a week to finish each round. That way I can promote my two main sites in two weeks, roughly.
Then reassess and go after them again, if necessary. Do I have other sites to promote? Yeah, but I had to decide to pare down/cut out on the 80% of my sites that are not worth my time to keep the 20% that give me the best bang for the buck.
Thanks again for the reminder to focus!
Hi Shane
Keep them at once a week it’s refreshing to listen/watch someone who isn’t just selling me stuff !!
As for the focus/action thing. I am someone who perfected the ‘being busy getting nothing done’ work week!
I found that the only way to actually get results was to write a step-by-step process and follow it.
This works great for single projects but when trying to keep multiple projects going it is all too easy to focus on the wrong thing. Another level of planning is required which provides some form of priority.
This is especially true for web promotion and the ‘backlink ballteplan’ type of process. Just how do you keep tabs on where you are across multiple projects?
Not easy.
Rich
Forgot to mention about the video updates… I figure that I used to watch TV and spend an hour taking it all in. So, a short weekly video update is an excellent replacement and your videos are far more upbuilding and informative than the news – lol!
Hi Shane,
Yes, I like your weekly update, but you don’t have to do it on Sunday, unless you prefer it to be on Sunday.
Yes, I do agree with you regarding taking action and staying focus. I also have ‘almost done’ websites or programs on my desk for long time.
Just like you said, I’m also spreading myself too thin. I just hired an outsourcer to help me out. With outsourcing, hopefully I’ll be more focused on ‘productive’ things.
Looking forward to your Link Control. By the way, I like your Backlink Battleplan and I think it will be a great training material for my outsourcer. Thanks so much! You’ve made my life a lot easier!!!
Hope
I’m all for focused action but sometime you need to wait for an answer to an email to get you through the next stage.
Yup Shane..you…….
Generally I wait for no man….but I am waiting for you to answer an email…he he
Love the videos and BLBP…keep it up
Peter
Hey Peter,
Way to call me out in public… :)
Yes, e-mail replies are slowing down, simply due to the volume of e-mail I’m getting. But I will get around to yours, promise.
Hi Shane, enjoyed the short video! I’m not sure I’ll be able to watch every video every week, but they are short and so I’ll try to fit them in.
In terms of focus, I’ve signed up with SBI! e-learning which will take me through keyword analysis etc etc over a period of 12 weeks. As a total newbie to the whole area of website design/SEO/IM, I’m really enjoying being taken by the hand and led through the whole process. I’m also implementing a second round of Backlink Battleplan which I’ll focus on over the next few days.
In terms of payment processor, I’ve only ever used PayPal and never had a real issue with them. They seem to be the most widely accepted provider?
Anyway, thanks again for the information and general chat you provide us with!
Marion
Keep on doing your videos every week. Great stuff!
I too am dealing with information overload, procrastination, lack of focus and struggle with
decisions around what task to do next.
I have too many items on my To Do list.
Seems like every day I’m changing direction and
switching my focus to something else.
I’ve noticed that when I’m creating a new report or video
or am doing some backlinking for a client that has already paid me, I have focus and am determined to get it done and can’t wait to get up in the morning and get going on my project.
Nothing distracts or stops me from my project.
I feel so good and “In The Zone” at these times.
I need to learn how to harness this focus, work ethic, mindset and the “Zone” for when I need it.
Yes to once a week videos!
Love the updates. I have been using time blocking to help with my focus. That has really helped me focus in for a period of time on what I am doing. I use a kitchen times for my time periods.
Shane,
Keep the Sunday updates coming, they are (as someone mentioned above) very refreshing.
My goal is to start and finish one project at a time, and this week’s goal is to finish the report.
Hello Shane,
I enjoy your informal video chats, please keep them coming!
As for focus and action…hmm…
Interesting timing, I have been away from good internet access for two weeks but have been increasingly feeling like it is time to take action. (But like you have several different projects happening at once, some of which I have no control over [“real” life stuff]) But today it is clear that I need to find my new hosting supplier, build a simple site, get autoresponders happening and create a simple product and get started.
And it is already Monday here so I have no excuse…
(So step 1: find that elusive “perfect”:-) webhosting company!)
Wayne.
Ah, good old perfectionism… don’t let it slow you down too much.
Slowed down by perfectionuism?
Who?
Me?
Ha!
:-)
See?
A typo in “perfectionism” to prove I am not into perfectionism!
:-)
Well, there’s no arguing with that. :D
Shane,
Videos updates once a week…YES
Where are you going to shoot your Sunday updates once the snow flies?
Clarence
Oh yes.
Am putting together my 4-6 website assembly for marketing and it looks a total mess. Will probably have to delete all and start over again from scratch as I have a lot of crossover.
CC
Shane,
Yes to the Sunday update videos. Next time you ought to bring a T-Rex along to scare off that Pterodactyl that was about to attack you. :)
As far as applying more focus to my business goes, I know I’m going to be unsubscribing to a lot of the lists I’m on because going through those things takes forever. I’m addicted to free info products and such.
I think once I eliminate that distraction I can put more focused action into building my business.
I wasn’t aware Switzerland even had pterodactyls. Interesting!
I’m impressed that you could tell it was a pterodactyl. You sure know your birds… um, flying lizards, I mean.
I was born in the year of the dragon, so I’m pretty much a flying lizard myself. :)
Good stuff as usual Shane, keep em coming once a week.
_FS
Greetings from a warm and hot south africa.
Agree with the comment somewhere that you need to focus on one site and start making some money before you spread your wings. worked on 5 sites and got nowhere. DROPPED EVERYTHING AND ONLY FOCUS ON ONE NOW AND THINGS ARE LOOKING UP AT LAST.
Shane how about a short HOW TO VIdeo about the Energizer
Good idea. I still need to write a review about it anyway and I think I should add a video when I do that.
Good advice re focus and action. Simple advice but I often have trouble following it myself.
Good comments regarding the gurus. I used to trust these guys and bought their products but after getting scammed I stopped buying them as it is mostly hype.
I think your videos are very informative and you seem to know what you are talking about. I am not in the IM niche, but I like to try to connect and network with those involved in it as I can learn a lot and benefit from it.
As for my business, I am going to write more articles more often. I saw your video on article marketing and enjoyed that and it was good advice re submitting articles.
Shane,
I like your Sunday updates as I can listen to you without losing focus on what you are saying while getting on with other things on my PC.
I find email my biggest distraction to my focus and just recently I unsubscribed to everyone apart from ten trusted marketers and life coaches.
There is a trend for famous and well respected marketers to promote anything new regardless of the product worthiness and I find this very disappointing and really quite disturbing. Out of frustration and loss of respect with those marketers I started looking for honest reviews and found you and certainly pleased I did!
Oh, by the way, you are in my trusted list!
Hi Shane
Good and timely post yesterday, listening to your honesty in having a number of nearly finished projects that don’t quite get finished because we started doing something else made me smile
The frightening part is when you do sit down for a day to finish one of these you suddenly realise how much there is still to do as I did last thursday, that said you were spot on, if your not achieving your goals this is usually why
When this is combined with all those e mails bombarding us with just sales messages and no value we can see how a new marketer is just drawn off in all directions, gets nothing done and has a hard drive full of hyped products that don’t do what they promise
So my two projects are to finish my video product and to update the way my blog works
Thanks as always for a thought provoking post Tony
What am I going to do to provide focus and action.
1. I am going to focus on just 1 site until it begins to earn enough for me, then and only then do I move onto project 2.
What do I think of the videos
2. I think the video updates once a week are a great idea.
Hi Shane
1. Action and focus. I using the methods from Backlink Battleplan from video One, and with the step by step guide from Backlink Battleplan to keep track on my tasks!
2. GREAT video today! – Sunday video updates is awesome,,,, YES!
Really exciting news about Link Control :-)
Thanks
Christoffer
Shane,
YES! Videos once a week please… always great stuff!
Thanks,
Doug
Shane,
Sunday Videos – yes please!
Focus:
1 Unsubscribe more.
2 Write more.
3 Read these comments again; many of them were very helpful.
1. Good plan.
2. Also good plan.
3. I agree, really cool inputs here! :)
4. Thanks for commenting!
Yes please with sugar on top to weekly video updates, Shane! It’s like a free coaching session on top of all your other great advice. Before watching your video I was having trouble motivating myself to get busy this morning but now i’ve decided that after I tackle my immediate to do list I’m going to focus on reattacking BBP and see if I can’t get the rest of the free PC apps you recommended installed on my PC before my son gets home from school. Thanks for the kick in the proverbial seat, Shane! :-D
Hi Shane,
You are right about the focus, too much to bog you down out there.
BLBP (which i am 75% through), is the only package i have come across that covers all backlink bases, but more importantly, is systematic.
I feel this has helped me to focus as it is one plan and not dribs and drabs of unknown stuff that may or may not work.
Looking forward to Link Control.
Thanks for the videos and effort,
Paul.
Hi Shane
I probably contributed to stealing some of your focus when you kindly answered my question following my purchase of Backlink Battleplan (I do believe this is a great course).
Focussing is not easy for yours truly but I’m getting there and have started to improve. I read Getting Things Done and found quite a useful website/tool called toodledo.com.
This uses a similar framework to the book and allows for the creation of life goals, to do’s and can be associated by contexts, folders, locations and other filters.
To be honest I’m blown away by this tool + there’s a sync facility for Android or iPhone.
Love the idea of a weekly update.
You are one of the few people I consider genuine and would include others like Dr Andy Williams.
There are now so many Gurus who promote each other, it’s hard to see where hype finishes and reality starts.
Please keep up this great work.
Regards and thanks
Steve
Thanks, Steve.
Customer support is a priority, of course. While it would be good for my focus if I could reduce the workload on that front, I cannot do that before I have a support team or assistant whose capable hands I can leave it in.
This will probably be the case sometime next year. :)
Shane, I hope the weekly video update will continue. I think it is a great way to keep in touch and update us with ‘the latest’
Second, with regard to focus, this is where I struggle and having watched this week’s video and read your reply to another commenter earlier, I need to concentrate on one website plus my Hubpages so will be doing that this week! I am starting to see some results but I think what you said about spreading yourself too thin, applies to what I have been doing.
With regard to outsourcing, any pointers on how to get started with this? Thanks, Alison
I wish I could give you some awesome tips on outsourcing, but it’s new grounds for me, too.
I can tell you that it’s very likely I’ll share whatever I learn with my subscribers in some form or another, though. :)
Shane,
First off, YES on the Sunday videos. As stated they are very refreshing. It’s almost amazing to find a marketer, of your caliber, willing to share on what feels like a one-on-one basis. Your video and posts have a genuine honest quality that has been missing from the IM field for so long.
Honestly, I feel like most of the “gurus” see us as sheep being led to the slaughter, only that they dangle carrots and dollar signs in front of our eyes baiting us to the next “big thing”.
After seeing your video a few weeks ago, I immediately began doing a gmail inbox search on each marketer, as I randomly went over their last few emails, it became apparent which ones were cramming the same canned BS messages about the next great thing and I immediately began unsubscribing. The ones that at least made a conscious effort to email real usable information I kept (for now anyways).
I feel the saddest thing that goes on is that there are so many hurting people that have lost jobs, or just barely scraping by and they get taken advantage of by the so called “gurus”.
I haven’t been able to afford the BBP yet, but it’s definitely on my list. I watched the video and it looks like a doable system.
Sorry for the rant, but I’m just sick to death of all the BS that’s being peddled in the IM community and truthfully appreciate your honesty and candor more than you’ll ever know. Keep up the good work and be blessed.
Hi Shane,
Delightfully refreshing. Succinct, useful updates are an excellent idea.
Les
Shane I have only recently come across you and your products. I for one am very pleased to find someone that knows what he is talking about and does so in a level headed way.
I have to admit I didn’t watch the first video you sent I started at the second then spent 10 minutes searching for the first one!!
Hopefully that says to you KEEP them coming! As long as they are short and sweet I’m all for it. :)
TY
Lynne
