Here’s the WSO for Peter’s plugin, that I mentioned in the video:

  • Just purchased the Plug-in for a good cause!!
Ahh yes…a big problem. So many ideas and things we want to do and no time to do them all. Outsource I guess would be the first idea….but for the person who just can’t let go of COMPLETE CONTROL what is the solution? Maybe a Partner…but again there is the trust issue and still giving up some control. And for technical ideas of which we don’t have the skill to complete…how do you protect your ideas while having someone else do the technical stuff? Prioritizing in order of importance is a start, but does not solve the original frustration.
Shane I think you have a great combo with you and your programmer / partner. However having a technically skilled partner even puts MORE ideas in your head. So what IS the answer?
    Stephen

    • I was hoping you’d be able to tell me what the aswer is! :D

Actually, something of a plan is forming, in my head. I’ll let you know about it, once I really make up my mind.

  • Shane you should upload your videos on youtube or any other good streaming site because your server is slow.

    • I don’t particularly like using YouTube because of the ads. That, and my account got deleted out of nowhere, so my trust is at an all-time low.

      • Andy Iskandar says:

Actually for me, I never have trouble with your videos. They always load quite fast for me.

  • Yes, the evaluation thing. A realistic look shows that after a couple of years of throwing things against the wall to see if something sticks resulted in a big wall with a lot of sticky stuff on the floor. That’s why I’m coming back to offline while at the same time seeing if I can sell my own product for a change.

My lack of life changing money is no sign that it can’t be done. I just haven’t done it. Yet. The principles I use are sound. It’s just a matter of not putting the right combination of things together.

Of course, never say never. I still have a long list of experiments in mind. I see it as like panning for gold. Maybe the next scoop will finally pay off in more than dust. Eternal optimist, and such. My poor family has even learned to accept my gold mining ways. More or less.

You mentioned note organizing software. Everybody should have something beyond Wordpad, which is still pretty dang good. I use a teensy little free program (They ask for donations. I donated) called Quicknote… http://www.quicknote.de/ …. Your readers might want to take a look. It’s 100% unobtrusive and great for dashing off things to do.
    Norm

    • Thanks for the tips (quicknote)!

From your recent comments on the Sunday Updates, I get the impression that you’re headed in the right direction!

And just for the record: I also have a heck of a lot of stuff “on the floor”, stuff that didn’t stick.
      Keep throwin’.

  • In the past I’ve tried to raise sales for my English self help products for more than 2 years. Without almost any results. Sales where at a certain level and did not raise. (now I do spend 10 minutes a week at side business, and I’ve got the same income for this business as when i did spend 10 hours a week at it). When I started to focus on the products that did sell without spending to much attention and time, my Dutch self help products, sales did raise 150% for last year and approx 75% for the first to months of this year.

I’ve got also to much projects on my plate. However, using focus and action does help a lot:)

  • Good topic the 80/20. Tracking is something I should improve.
I am still to new to speak of any increase or decrease in sales activity.
I might just get the plugin. It is a good cause.
    Thanks for another Sunday Update!

    Regards
    Stanley

  • A big thank you to Shane and to everyone who has purchased my WP plugin.

    I really appreciate your support.

The old 80/20 rule definitely came into play while I was creating this WSO. I’d set myself and incredibly tight deadline of 1 day to create the product and WSO from scratch.

Given this was the first time I’d done this, I was possibly being a little unrealistic, but I thought it was still achievable as I was making great progress until I got bogged down with autoresponder integration issues. If it wasn’t for that, I probably could have got it done in a day.

However, I’m still very pleased that I completed it and as well as feeling good about helping out the Red Cross, it has been a very valuable learning experience for me.

Sales are ticking along pretty slowly at this stage with around $100 raised. I’m hoping to significantly boost that by the end of the 4 weeks.

I’ll post a financial summary of the amount raised and donated to the Red Cross on the WSO page and on my Ultimate Marketing Strategies site on 28 March 2011.

  • Hi Shane
Thanks for the “get tracking” reminder – this has been one of my failure points!

As the new year gets underway I have been doing a major rethink re making the best of the time available. I know that I waste time on non productive issues – so what do I do about that? Well here comes Parato’s rule again! I also have your problem of not focusing on one thing until it is finished!
FOCUS means – “focus on one core project until successful”.

Then I went back to one of the best books I have ever read by one of the best authors I know and am re-reading his wonderful advice – you may have read it too but if not it is worth much study –
“Eat that frog” by Brian Tracy.

His business advice and time management tips can save many wasted hours a day.Put his advice into action and he promises life changing results – so here goes. Full steam ahead to success.

  • Andy Iskandar says:

oh yes Shane, I agree with you totally. I’m the same… I think it’s a common problem among us who pursue the entrepreneurial path. Plus the fact that we seem to always get ideas for this service and that product.

I always seem to spot opportunities wherever I look. And it takes all the discipline I have to not be distracted and make sure I spend my resources on my point of focus.

Also, analysing one’s business to see where are the high leverage points (or the 80/20 points I call them) is the single best activity you can carry out. Just by doing this and not pursuing new BSTs (bright, shiny tactics) has resulted in increased profits for me.

It is a very, very important thing for me. So much so that I have established a philosophy around it that forms the basis of everything I do, not just in business. I call it the Kaireto Philosophy. It is a combination of the concept of Kaizen and the Pareto Principle, hence the name Kaireto.

Based on this philosophy, for every major area of my life, I only do the things that have high leverage (Pareto) and I do them on a consistent basis (Kaizen).

    :D

  • I’ve been doing another email purge. Unsubbing from everything non-essential or non-valuable.

80/20 comes into play here as well as it looks like I’m unsubscribing from 80% of the email that comes in, including newsletters, old google alerts, and system generated stuff I don’t care about any more.
