Question of the week:

How did your personal one-week challenge go? What results did you experience?

As mentioned in the video, here’s the link to BBP 2.0:

Backlink Battleplan 2.0 – Reopening Special Offer

  • Update on Anant’s challenge:

I wanted to finish my first (affiliate) website.

I did work on that and it was a good thing that I really focused on it. I got more done than I actually had expected beforehand. So, I’m very happy about that.

Unfortunately, I had to drop the domain name (it had the word ‘google’ in it…) I’ve just registered another domain name. I’m expecting to have the site up and running in about 2 days.

    Anant

    • Hello Anant,
Don’t fret or worry about it. You are NOT alone. I have had to do the same thing before…more than once, actually. I would have a GREAT niche idea that involved threading a very fine needle. Then I’d go find a GREAT domain, which I should not have been able to find unoccupied, only later to realize that there was a very good reason I was able to get it. That reason, of course, is that I didn’t think the “what if’s” through.

It’s like swimming in the ocean off a crowded beach. When you come up for air and look around and see you are the only one still in the water…well, it’s time to duck paddle back to shore.
      Norm

    • Good stuff!
Domain moves can be a bit bothersome, but it’s the right thing to do. Better to avoid trade-name domains.

  • Hey Shane!
Good to hear that you progress with avoiding the distraction-websites. Our launch was stunning. I hope paypal is not going to close our account, because of the volume of transactions coming in all of a sudden.
I couldn’t reach my goal about chosing a niche/product for affiliate marketing, but I am close, bought secockpit yesterday and have already many candidates, impressive service.

One question: when I login on members.backlinkbattleplan.com, I seem to see still the “old” content, do I have to upgrade somehow? Bought the battleplan last year.

    • Awesome! Congratulations on the successful launch!

You can access the updated version of BBP here.

  • Hi Shane,
I already have BBP v1; is this an upgrade? If so, how do I access it?

    • It’s a free upgrade. You can access the new material in the same member’s area as BBP v1 was, before. :)

  • Hi Shane,

I didn’t set a public challenge, put I will say that this past week has been more productive than usual thanks in part to your suggesting to us that we challenge ourselves.

I am very glad to see the release of Backlink Battle plan. I have been eagerly anticipating this. I made the purchase before I even listened to the video.

I almost believe you were talking to me when you made that video. You described where I am as if we had just had a conversation about it.

I’m currently downloading everything and can hardly wait to dig into it. Even though I haven’t read a word or watched a video, from what I’ve seen of your other products, I know I will be glad I made the purchase. So:

    Thanks in advance
    Doug
    aka BigShell

    • Thanks, Doug!

I hope you get along well with BBP and I’m sure you’ll be one of the next success stories. :)

  • Hello Shane,
Great to see you on this fine Sunday afternoon. I completely finished my new “seasonal” website by completing my backlinks arkles and posting them. Glad that’s over.

I also finally grabbed a copy of The Best Spinner because I have 700+ credits in one of the article submitter places you mention in BLB and I thought it was time to cash in. But since their spin syntax is kind of goofy, and the spinners I have been using wouldn’t output to it, I decided to get the spinner that would.

So, what’s that got to do with anything, you ask? Well, I revisited that place after reviewing BLB again and remembering I had it. Therefore, you figure in prominently somewhere or the other with the events that led up to my newest purchase. I like it a LOT!

Now, since the new site has busted all *getting indexed* records, I thought I might try to rinse and repeat with a new site and see if I could do it again.

The keyword is chosen based on my “pet rock” theory. What I have been looking for, and think I have located is, for most people, a completely useless subject, but one that people with tons of money and immense appetite really dig, and actually search for. More, the Adsense potential is relatively high. So this will be an authority Adsense site with Amazon and possibly CJ overtones. I don’t think that’s normal somehow. Hmmn! We shall see.

In the meantime, as you may have heard over there, finances are a little strained in the colonies over here. The immediate future may be harder than ever. We’ll know more by the time of your next update.

Always a pleasure seeing your update in my inbox!
    Norm

    • Hi Norm,

700 credits!? If you can manage to produce enough articles to keep up, that will get you amazing amounts of backlinks. :)

I like your keyword theory a lot, by the way. There are always these “hidden” niches, where people are completely crushing it and most people don’t even know the niche exists. I think you’re on to something.

  • “useless subject, but one that people with tons of money and immense appetite really dig”

That’s a very interesting and promising viewpoint to look for keyword ideas. Thanks, Norm!

    • You’re very welcome Michel. We all make purchases we don’t need. That’s why new fangled tater peelers and couch wrinkle remover keeps selling.

If you can come up with the next popular useless gadget, it’s bound to sell, at least for a while. Therefore, what do folks with too much money want that I can provide? Diet plans, patent medicine, and hair restorer have been with us always. That’s the launching point for this kind of brainstorming session.

Not saying it’s for everyone or even if it will work, but it’s another tool to consider as we strive for ideas.

  • Shane

I also didn’t set a public challenge but have been very conscious this past week of getting on with the goals I set myself and am pleased to say I managed to get virtually all of them done!

I’m off to take a look at BBP … have heard such great reports about it ..

    Julie

  • Hi Shane –

Quick update from me with regards to my own personal 7-day challenge, which was to create a product, build a site and make my first sale by today.

    The Bad News …
Wednesday and Thursday were ripped out of my schedule due to unforeseen circumstances (family), so no sale as yet!

    The Good News …
Even with only 5 days out of 7, I’m about 80% there. Product is almost finished (ebook layout/graphics still to do). Site is built (WP) and working with 5 initial articles and free course squeeze (10-part A/R sequence). The sales letter needs more polishing and I’m considering adding an upsell (audio version of ebook).

So, as I am meeting clients tomorrow, I have decided to give myself a new deadline of Wednesday (i.e. adding Tuesday/Wednesday in place of the 2 days I “lost” this past week).

For me, this will still count for 7 days, even though they were not consecutive and spread out over 10 days (which is probably a more reasonable deadline for future projects of this magnitude!)

If you’re still interested, I’ll let you know when PayPal notify me of my first new sale.

Thanks again for the inspiration, it has been a blast getting “in the trenches” again! ;o)

    All the best,
    Chris

    • Hey Chris,
That’s really good progress! Don’t worry about not hitting the deadline perfectly. Life is what gets in the way of your plans, after all. The important part is to have something to aim for, that takes you further than you would have gone otherwise. I’d love to know about the continuing progress of this project!

  • I didn’t set a personal challenge, but looked up Paul’s suggestion of the Pomordoro method and used it all week to get all kinds of “to-dos” completed. I intend to continue this week and see how many other things I can cross off my list.

    • Awesome! Pomdoro method or just generally having a timer running is a real productivity booster. If you make it a habit, that’s really powerful.

  • Hi Shane

i have a question and please forgive the newbiness :)

If i have an article and i subit that 1 article to different networks like amr. that article potentially has the chance to be accepted in numerous netwokrs and will produce backlinks. but having the same article in numerous networks produce duplicate content??

can you please explain the concept.. thanks

    love SE cockpit

    eddie

    • Hi Eddie,

Yes, if you submit one non-spun article to various networks then you’ll get duplicate articles published all over the place. This isn’t too tragic, you’ll still get some good backlinks from those articles. However, there are two reasons why I recommend article spinning for these steps.
      1) Google will not index all of the articles, if they are all identical. It may, therefore, also not count all of your links.
      2) On most networks, your article will get published more often if it is spun. Webmasters who accept articles can often set a minimum spin percentage for any article they want to publish to their site.

Bottom line: spun articles result in a greater number of backlinks.

  • Hi Shane: I did not quite hit my own target either, but definitely got a lot more completed than usual. I had a heavier load of client activities than expected so I was not able to get to my own video creation. I’m going to keep using the same basic breakdown for this week as well.

It certainly helps to have a desktop ‘timer’ to incentivize / record activities – I’ve been using ‘The Action Machine’ which is a highly visual and customizable timer.

    Cheers, Neil

    • Hey Neil,

Good stuff! I also like to use the Action Machine. It’s great for mapping out the main tasks for the day. :)

      • Hey Guys –

I’m an avid Action Machine user too. Actually, a few months ago I conducted an interview with Derek Franklin who developed and created this amazing software. The interview lasts about 80 minutes and is full of self management tips and efficiency tactics, which I think could really help anyone still struggling with issues of procrastination or lack of focus.

This interview was created for my private students, but I’d like to share it with people following this post for their own *personal* use (i.e. may not be sold, shared or given away to others) in the hope that they too may discover how much easier it is to become more productive with just a little planning and forethought.

Here is a direct link to download the interview:
        http://theprincipledmarketer.com/derek/getting-things-done.zip

No squeeze, no signup, no shenanigans. Just solid information on how to get things done – easier, quicker and more efficiently.

I hope you find it useful.

As always, strive for excellence! ;o)

      • Thanks a lot for sharing, Chris!

      • Thanks Chris! (a fellow Scot) A great interview w/ Derek who not only designed the software but explains how to use it: outcomes – deadlines – big picture. I’ve been using the Action Machine for a while & really like it. It’d be even more useful if it had an inbuilt ‘clendering’ application so that you add in dated appointments into the time boxing system.

      • My pleasure gentlemen, I hope it helps.

Zurich, Denver and Copenhagen – the nomadic celts strike again! ;o)

I actually spoke to Derek about adding appointments to the software Neil, as I had the same thought as you, but he felt it would detract from the programs core focus.

OK, I’ve got a deadline to meet (tick, tick, tick…)

  • Hi Shane,
Although, as a few others have mentioned here, I did not set a personal challenge,I have been working slowly and steadily and following all your updates.

I am relatively new to all this but have made up my mind to learn everything necessary to build a regular online business; as a first step, I want to appeal to the more experienced readers of this blog to give me an opinion about my first AdSense website and a few more things that I should do to make it successful. Of course, I have just started the link building process, thanks to your wonderful BBP.

I have only an hour in a day to devote to this work in the midst of my work as a freelance copywriter. Any suggestions please? Thank you.

    Great going Shane, good luck!!

    Cheers
    Rema

    • Hi Rema – not surprisingly, considering your work as a copywriter the articles look well written and I personally prefer simple ‘clean’ web designs. However, I’d recommend adding some images to the site to give it some visual appeal…

One of the best Free Photo Image source is: Stock.XCHNG

      http://www.sxc.hu/

      or try: Morgue File

      http://www.morguefile.com/

If you can’t find anything from these two then iStockphoto is the ultimate resource ($2/3 per small image):

      http://www.istockphoto.com/

      Cheers, Neil

    • Hi Rema,

For your AdSense site, I have three suggestions:
      1) Have at least one ad-block inside your actual content, for example one of those square blocks aligned left or right at the top of each post/page.
      2) Make the ad colors match the rest of your site, so that it blends in nicely. Usually, if you blend your ads in, that gets the highest click-rates.
      3) Stay at it! It can take a while before you get enough traffic going to really make a good amount of money with AdSense, but it’s worth sticking with it. :)

    • Hi Rema,
I made a post on your site on how you can get in touch or you can click my name. Mainly, I was going to say that you should add the customary links in the footer, about, privacy, contact, etc. Assuming your content is original, you have a fine site. I like your tight Adsense scheme. Lastly you should do your offpage SEO with Shane’s Backlink Battleplan. I can’t stress this strongly enough. Then you’ll be a happy Rema for sure!
      Norm
PS…Nope, I’m not related to Shane. He’s just solved the *getting indexed* puzzle.

  • Okay, I had to pass on any online challenge. Moving was enough of a challenge for me in ANY given week.

As for BLBP2, Shane, you are one amazing sumbitch. I don’t believe I have ever purchased a product that has had as much refinement and quality. Some of the new tools/services you feature look most impressive.

I am convinced you have established yourself as a true leader in the IM field with all you have invested in the program – for us.

    Thanks a ton, mate!

    Al

  • I don’t set goals and I think that setting goals is a bit overrated. I just get up and do what I love to do each morning and I know that things will work out.

Setting goals is far too much pressure and I’ve read everything from Getting Things Done to the Four Hour Work Week and while it may work for many I don’t ascribe to most of the principles.
