Another great post. I really enjoy your “App of the Week” emails and commentary. You are one of the few straight shooters in this industry. Thanks.

  • David says:

    Will start using it now.

I do appreciate you and what you do to assist others..

    Thank you for sharing, Shane!

Been using buffer for some time it is a good one and I’m loving the app of the week and look forward to each installment. Off topic but could be useful to you because you develop WordPress plugins. Check out NextScripts: Social Networks Auto-Poster. This plugin is free and it allows you to auto post excerpts from your WP blog posts to a Blogger Blog but it also lets you send content to bookmarking sites. Most notable it is the only way that I found to send text and links automatically to my Facebook page and Twitter with tags or categories as Htags. What with Facebook and Twitter supporting Hash Tags this could be handy for generating Traffic on Facebook and Twitter search. I think a plugin that can support auto posting to a few more free blogging platforms and social media sites could be very handy for link and anchor text link building. Just figured you could take a look at the plugin and then come up with something more useful perhaps. Like you need more work right? lol

Great review, this will be very handy! You suggested curating the items to share from our RSS readers–I’d love to know which one you recommend.

    • Shane says:

Thanks, Cynthia! I was a Google Reader user, but since that shut down, I recommended my favorite alternatives in this post.

  • Shane,
You’ve found a great niche with your little (and big) software helpers. I always open your emails and will continue to do so because of the value you provide.

    • Shane says:

Thanks, Lenny! I’m glad to know you’re getting good value out of this. :)

  • Alex says:

    Back to Buffer for me.

Thanks for the reminder Shane – I was using Buffer but dwindled away to almost zero!

I didn’t know of any of the interlinking services.

  • Tony A says:

Thanks for this recommendation Shane – it is just the type of tool that I was starting to search for to assist in managing my social media.

  • Thanks for sharing an app I probably wouldn’t of stumbled across. Looks pretty good.

I really like the IFTT web app. With it you can link buffer and numerous other services together to make them do incredibly powerful things.

  • Hi Shane,
Great suggestion, as usual! However, I stopped using Buffer and went with Hootsuite instead, because it does everything that Buffer does, AND it enables me to read and answer any messages, AND includes an RSS Reader, so I can read all my Google Reader feeds, plus your RSS feed, etc, all in one dashboard. Still can’t get it to make me breakfast, though. :-(

While I use the Pro version, so I can update clients’ social media feeds, I recommend the free version for my my clients that want to control their own social media marketing, it is fine for individuals and even small businesses. Definitely worth a look! Yes, I am an affiliate for them, but no affiliate links here, I am happy to recommend it for free! :-)

  • Hey Shane

This is a great app, thanks very much for sharing!

  • Nenad says:

Ah, this is something I was really looking for for my magazine site :) Thank you so much for sharing, thes apps of the week posts are “gold on tap”.

    Cheers from your “neighbourhood” (Hungary,

  • Donna says:

Shane, I use buffer as well. But I really prefer Hootsuite and the Hootlet widget that works in the same way as Buffer. I manage many clients social media and Hootsuite allows me to upload via Excel many updates at one time, saving me loads of time. I really enjoy your App of the week videos. Keep up the good work.

    • Shane says:

      Hi Donna,

Thanks for your comment! Hootsuite is definitely better if you’re managing client accounts and it’s a lot more feature rich. I’ve been testing Hootsuite for the past few weeks, as well. :)

  • Tim says:

    Hi Shane

These are great updates – thanks for putting them together. I’ve been wondering – what email software do you use to manage all your subscriptions?

    • Shane says:

      Hi Tim,

I’m using Infusionsoft. I have to say that I can’t really recommend them, though. There’s a lot to fault with this app and I think they’re pretty severely overpriced.

  • Xenia says:

    Hello Shane,
Great works as always. Thank you.

Do you sign in with facebook/twitter/linkedin or your email account? Why?

    Warm Regards

    • Shane says:

I tend to sign in with my email account. Just a personal preference or force of habit, I guess.

  • Stan says:

    Hi Shane,
Thanks for your suggestion. It’s a great app… I love it. By the way, which theme you are using for this blog? I like the layout setting.

    • Shane says:

      Hello Stan,

Glad you like the suggestion. :)
For this site, I’m using “FocusBlog” by Thrive Themes. Full disclosure: Thrive Themes is my company as well.
