    How does this affect seo??

      It doesn’t, if done right.
      If you use the editor I showed, the variations will be shown on one and the same page, to different visitors. Google will always see the same version (control) of the page, since the other versions are shown via Javascript.
      On a split URL test, just make sure to noindex all but the control page. That’s basically it, to ensure that there’s no SEO impact.

      Thanks, glad you like it!

      A tool like this should never be an expense. It’s a way to make more money, not something to spend money on.
      For example, if you’re in a position where you can make at least one extra sale of a $50 product per month, with testing, then VWO is no longer a cost in your business.

      If you aren’t in a position where increased conversions can add at least $50/month to your bottom line, then it’s too early to test.

    Amazing coincidence, I was just looking for something like this earlier today. Glad you pointed out how Visual Website Optimizer can monitor several outcomes at once and help identify changes that are counter productive. Also glad you mentioned bounce rate. For those of us always attempting to increase traffic, lowering the bounce rate can be a proxy for increased traffic. Thanks, as always. I’m loving your App of the Week series.

    Shane, you had a post reviewing these services and GetClicky seemed like a better option for me due to its more affordable prices.

    Do you think GetClicky is not as “easy to use” as VWO? As you mentioned in your video, I am also not a very technical person who enjoys messing with the coding, so just wanted to ask.

    By the way, the ability of these tools working well with WordPress is also another factor we need to watch out considering the fact that most of us running WP sites.

      Hi Chad,

      VWO and Clicky are two entirely different products.

      Clicky is an analytics tool. It runs at all times on all your pages and gives you insights into where your traffic is coming from, what your visitors are doing etc.

      Visual Website Optimizer is a testing tool. You select specific pages and create variations to test against each other, for that page. All you incoming visitors to that page are then evenly split up between all the test variations and VWO figures out which variation leads to the best results.

      In very broad strokes, you could say that analytics are useful for finding out who your visitors are and where to get more traffic, while a testing tool is for getting better results from that traffic.

      Both of these tools integrate with WordPress seamlessly, via plugins.

        I am confused now:) Doesn’t Clicky perform goal tracking and split testing? Because those are listed as its features on their website.

        A general “off-topic” suggestion;
        You might consider placing an optin form on these app of the week pages. There might be some good cold traffic coming to your App of The Week pages. I dont know,it might worth testing… just my 2 cents.

        Goal tracking: yes.

        Split testing: they do split testing by integrating with Visual Website Optimizer, actually… they don’t have any split testing functionality built into Clicky itself.

    VWO is one of those must have tools if you driving traffic to a page, especially paid traffic. Just one simple tweak will easily pay the cost of this tool.

    Does VWO do email sales tracking? I quit using Aweber because deliverability has been worse and worse. One of its features was testing email conversions.

    The email service I use now has amazing deliverability rates, but doesn’t have this feature.

      There is a conversion tracking feature in VWO, but it’s secondary. You can do conversion tracking for specific goals on specific pages, but that’s it. It’s certainly not comparable to a dedicated tracking app.

      For emails, you could consider creating campaign links and tracking them in Google Analytics or Clicky. Although conversion tracking is not 100% accurate in either of those solutions.

    Thanks Shane. I especially liked your response to the question about it being expensive. I’m wondering how this compares to Google Experiments? Google Analytics on the whole seems over the top complicated, but the newer Experiments portion seems pretty straight forward.

      I’m not a big fan of Google experiments. I think it’s a step back from what Website Optimizer did.

      It’s okay, but it only does split-page testing, as far as I know. Better than no testing at all, but it’s not nearly in the same league as VWO.

    Is this your solution for geo-targeting as well? Or do you know of any better tool for that purpose?
    I’m looking for a solution for geo-targeting nowadays. Testing would be a great plus, if one tool can handle it all, thats great.

      I’ve not used or tested any other tools for geo-targeting. VWO certainly gets the job done, though.
